Jazz in the Park 2010

 

Join the Great River Big Band for the Gertrude Salzer Gordon Jazz In the Park Concet Series.
All concerts are held in Riverside Park in La Crosse, WI.

Sunday, June 13


Riverside Park 7:00 p.m. (rain site: Forest Hills Golf Course)
Vocalist Cathy Reitz’s selections include Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” Natalie Cole’s “Orange Colored Sky,” and June Christy’s version of “When the Sun Comes Out.” Trumpeter Tom Brown will recreate Roy Elldrege’s performance of “Rockin’ Chair.” Tim Henke will croon some Sinatra with “Fly me to the Moon.” A Special treat will be the upper Midwest premiere of the Christian McBride bass feature “In a Hurry” presented by bassist Karyn Quinn and the band.

Swing era favorites in Sunday’s performance include Jimmy Dorsey’s greatest hits medley and Glenn Miller’s “At Last.” Jazz fans will appreciate the band’s performance of the Buddy Rich “Westside Story Medley.”

Sunday, June 20

Riverside Park 7:00 p.m. (rain site: Forest Hills Golf Course)
This concert will showcases Madison singer Gina Jorgenson. Ms. Jorgenson will perform several selections including Natalie Cole’s “The Very Thought of You” and “Almost Like Being In Love.” The trombone section will be featured on Sy Zentner’s “On A Clear Day” while the whole band comes to the fore with Bob Florence’s “Flight of Fancy” and Les Brown’s version of “Slaughter on 10th Avenue. Swing era fans will love “Polka Dots and Moonbeams” and “Tuxedo Junction” from the Glenn Miller Orchestra

Sunday, July 18

Riverside Park 7:00 p.m. (rain site: Forest Hills Golf Course)
We invite you to join the band for "Dancing Under The Stars." Join the fun and listen or dance along with Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Les Brown, Woody Herman, Xavier Cugat and other big band greats. Guest artists, Kathy and Kellen Burgos, owners and instructors at The Moonlight Dance Studio will perform a demonstration dance to the Tango.

Sunday, July 25

Riverside Jazz Party 3:00 - 10:00 p.m. (rain site: Valhalla Cartwright Center, UW-L.)
A free jazz fest in Riverside Park Featuring Vocalist Janet Planet and the Great River Big Band. The Janet Planet Quartet, Jim Piela Quartet and Rev. Al Townsend's "Wonderful World Jazz Band" will also be performing. See the schedule for the day at Riverside Jazz Party.
